The NFC Dead Zone (www.nfcdead.com) is a series of hidden stories and messages that are embedded in stone, paint, concrete, wood, and other materials. XtremeSignPost (www.XtremeSignPost.com) has provided a method to record, retrieve, and share memories from the past. They have created a Near Field Communication (NFC) based system that is mobile, stable, and secure. NFC Dead is an interactive global game that consists of NFC cell phones and RFID-tagged items such as granite, art, clothing, and other consumer products. Participants of the game create and activate links to digital memories that are imbedded in consumer items. This process transforms art and products into hidden message boxes or dead drops. Touching NFC cell phones to the RFID-tagged objects allows information such as photos, videos, and music to be retrieved, displayed, and shared. Come visit Stan, the Submerging Man. He emerged on the scene at Burning Man, 1999 and now lives in Davis, CA in front of the John Natsoulas Gallery. The transmedia sculpture is made of discarded vinyl records by Finley Fryer. Stan is going through the analog to digital transformation and needs some help. We are replacing old data with new information in the form of videos, music and stories. Take a step on the wild side. Transform a public art piece into a transmedia storyteller. Listen to Nathan’s, Erik’s, and Hisa’s hidden voices. Participate in an ongoing adventure. Record and burn your hidden voice into stone. The issue is sharing experiences.
